Compton Gamma Ray Observatory being released from the Shuttle

Description

The Compton Gamma Ray Observatory was launched into orbit aboard the Space Shuttle Atlantis in April 1991. The photograph was taken by a member of the shuttle crew through a window on the Atlantis shuttle as the astronauts use the shuttle arm to release the observatory into orbit. The earth is visible in the background.
